One Month

Can you believe that Michael is already over a month old? I can't! He measured in today at 9 lbs 5 ounces and 21 inches. And for the first time, he slept six hours straight Sunday night! I can't believe the types of things I get excited about these days.

JD has been working hard training employees of his retail stores last week and this week. His training session make for long, tiring days when he has to drive far away. Boo. But he's good at it! And of course I've been working hard keeping Michael happy and trying to feel okay about sitting around the house all day every day. At least JD got me DirecTV! Vickie has turned me on to both HGTV and Say Yes to the Dress. I love it!

Here are some pictures of Michael hanging out on the porch, contemplating life.

And his first shoes (which stayed on for about 2 minutes!).

Father's Day Weekend

JD said to me that he wishes every weekend could be just like this one, with an occasional camping or kayacking trip thrown in. Personally, the weekend would have been perfected with about 8 more hours of sleep. But really, why get so picky?

It was a great weekend because we got out on several walks around town and even got a date night while our neighbor watched Michael. She said that he slept the whole time, but he got us back by throwing a fit once we got him home. :) It was just a nice, lazy, family weekend. If only we were closer to our own dads to celebrate with them...

One of Michael's usual faces:

Coffee (or iced chai) in Normal.

Walkin' home on the Constitution Trail.

Michael tries to eat JD.

Happy Father's Day!

Week 2

Monday: perfect angel child. I actually got bored.
Tuesday: child was possessed. Screaming for hours until I thought I was going insane (I actually might have). Culminated in a rectal temperature check (surely he's sufferring from some horrible illness!) that he rejected by projectile deficating on the thermometer.
Wednesday: a good baby that cries when he's hungry and sleeps when he's not.
Thursday: possessed child returns. Why?!
Friday: easily moves between angel and devil throughout the day.
Weekend: Vickie and Phillip come to save me from myself (or to hold the baby, whatever).
Of course, Michael's moods then affect my own as I move between confident mother and sobbing mess. Oh, Michael! Can't you get that digestive tract to mature more quickly?!

More Pictures of Michael at Home

Our new family is doing well, even though things can get stressful late at night when Michael is crying for reasons we can not understand. But he's so precious and already changing way too quickly for my tastes. He was born with these adorable flat little ears that are now curled in normal people-ears, darn it. Pray for us as our company leaves tomorrow and JD goes back to work Monday. The true test is about to begin...
